Ways to Give
Gifts may be in the form of cash, check, credit card, stocks and bonds, life income gifts, or a planned gift. Cash and check contributions can be mailed to: Arbutus Park Manor, 207 Ottawa Street, Johnstown, PA 15904. You can make a contribution online through Visa, MasterCard, and American Express to benefit the residents of Arbutus.
"Both of our parents were longtime residents of Arbutus in addition to many uncles and aunts. Because of this, we have been visiting Arbutus on a regular basis since 1975. We moved here in 2004 and became residents of this caring and friendly community and have made the decision to give back on a regular basis, as well as dedicating a portion of our life insurance proceeds to Arbutus."
- Roger & Bonnie Luther
You can become a member of the Blossom Society and ensure the future care of residents with a planned gift. The Blossom Society is a special society created to recognize individuals who have chosen to make a planned gift to Arbutus. Below are specific planned giving options.
A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make. With the help of an advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift be made to Arbutus Park Retirement Community as part of your estate plan.
Sample Bequest Language
“I give, devise, and bequeath to ARBUTUS PARK RETIREMENT COMMUNITY the sum of $________ (or a description of the specific asset), for the benefit of ARBUTUS PARK RETIREMENT COMMUNITY and its general purposes.”
Charitable Gift Annuity
A charitable gift annuity is a simple contract between you, the donor, and Arbutus. Your tax deductible gift will be used to fund an annuity that will guarantee you lifetime income. This can be funded with either cash or securities.
You can designate Arbutus Park Manor as owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy.
If you are over the age of 70 ½, Congress has voted to make permanent the exclusion from income of up to $100,000 per person, per year, for Individual Retirement Account (IRA) distributions. You can designate Arbutus Park Manor as the beneficiary.
"We decided to give a charitable gift annuity to Arbutus. It helps sustain the operations to keep people at the nursing home when their funds run out and an annuity has great interest rates."
- George & Nancy Wargo
Annual Appeals & Programs
Memory Star Appeal
During the month of May donors have the opportunity to make a gift in memory or in honor of a special person who has impacted their life. Cards recognizing those honored or memorialized are displayed in the Arbutus Park Manor lobby.
Christmas Angel Appeal
An annual holiday tradition at Arbutus is the display of angel ornaments on our Angel Tree that are signed and returned by generous donors to show their support of our mission and to honor or remember a loved one.
Donors who wish to honor or memorialize a loved one, or who want to recognize a special staff member or volunteer, are encouraged to make a gift at any time throughout the year.
Rick’s Wish List
Whenever special projects and needs arise, donors are invited to contribute towards them, improving the lives and care of our residents. Projects funded in the past include a new ice cream machine, furnishings for the sun porch and refurbishing the Chapel. Wish List items are indicated in the monthly newsletter with a project fund goal.
Benevolent Care Fund
The Arbutus Benevolent Care Fund assists those residents who have outlived their resources and the ability to pay for their care. In 2016, over 85 residents continued to receive quality care because of the funds provided through the Benevolent Care Fund. In order to carry on the tradition of benevolence inspired by John Wesley, Arbutus has made the Benevolent Care Fund a priority through general donations, as well as through fundraisers like the Senior Spirit Awards.
“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”
― John Wesley

"Over nearly 40 years, Arbutus at varying times has been “home” to many of our family members. Many visits to them over the years has provided us with first-hand view of the evolving staff and the genuine care that is provided which cannot be “faked” nor is a product of slick advertising. Making a monthly contribution to Arbutus gives us great satisfaction knowing that every dollar will be spent. We’re so very blessed that we can give."
