Community Health Choices Update

August 7, 2017

·Residents, Retirement

In March, 2017 I wrote to you regarding the upcoming changes to the Medical Assistance landscape in the form of Community Health Choices which is a new program designed to help coordinate care for older persons who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid or for those individuals who qualify for Medicaid long-term services and supports because of the need for the level of care provided by a nursing facility. Since my last update, there has been significant progress made to make sure everything will be in place for the January, 1 2018 implementation date of the program.

Three Managed Care Organizations (MCO) have been selected by the State of Pennsylvania to administer this new program- Amerihealth Caritas, Pennsylvania Health & Wellness, and UPMC Community HealthChoices. Our administrative team here at Arbutus has been working diligently behind the scenes at contracting with these three MCOs so that there is no interruption in services that we currently provide.

Please be on high alert for important information that will be mailed to you from the Office of Long-Term Living (OLTL) regarding the Community HealthChoices (CHC) program. Enrollment into the program will be a requirement for all Medicaid eligible beneficiaries before January 1, 2018. Below you will find additional information shared by the Office of Long Term Living regarding the upcoming program implementation. – ck
