‘Christmas Angel’ 2021
Dear family and friends of APRC,
It is with a grateful heart that I share with you that this holiday will be a little brighter for our staff and residents. At the time of this letter, we are planning for intimate, festive celebrations with our residents . Our entire Arbutus Park family has worked hard, made sacrifices, and followed all protocols for health and safety, for that I thank you.
This past year continued to be filled with uncertainty. Through it all, we have been blessed with Arbutus Angels who have stepped up to help in many different ways. I would like to take a moment to share with you some good news from 2021.
The Arbutus Park Auxiliary has been a Godsend to everyone in the manor. Through their fundraising efforts, they have been able to supply us with items that help to provide comfort and care to our dear residents. This year, this tenacious group opened a weekly on campus flea market, selling donated items to the local community. They have raised over $14,500, and are planning to reopen in Spring 2022.
“Project Porch” was started by Tom Sigmund, one of our Independent Living Residents. He recruited a group of his neighbors to collect non-perishable food items from the residents in our community. To date Project Porch has collected over 1500 lbs. of food for various food banks in the Johnstown area. It’s wonderful to see our residents making a difference in the community.
The Arbutus Park Nursing Scholarship was started this year thanks to generous donors. The Nursing Scholarship is a partnership with The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies. RN’s and LPN’s may apply for this award to help offset the cost of student loans. It’s a wonderful way for us to give back to our nursing staff. *If you would like to donate to the scholarship fund, you may choose that category on your donation card.
As you can see, we have so much to be grateful for, but we have more to do. I am calling on our Arbutus Christmas Angels to consider a holiday gift to Arbutus Park. Your gift, kindly given to a department or project of your choosing, will help us continue our mission. When you make a Christmas Angel gift, your ornament card will be displayed on the Christmas Tree on the sun porch inside the Manor. What a joy for our residents to see so many Angels among them.
